Mgahinga National Park is the smallest national park in Uganda and is home to 2 Uganda gorilla groups offering a very exclusive and unique experience. The treks here are considered as the easiest compared to Bwindi Treks. Therefore if you get clients requesting for easy treks, it is the best option for them. Mgahinga Park is home to the luxury Mgahinga Lodge.

DAY 01: ARRIVE KIGALI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by Amahoro driver/guide and be transferred to your hotel in Kigali arriving for overnight on bed and breakfast.

DAY 02: PICK UP EX KIGALI AND DEPART FOR MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, your driver guide will meet you and the day starts with a tour of the Kigali City. Named in 1907 by Dr. Richard Kandt, the first colonial resident governor of Rwanda; Kigali city is surrounded by lush hills of green and is referred to as the land of a thousand hills. Get to visit interesting spots which may include; the craft market, Gisozi genocide memorial site & Kigali museum. Depart for Cyanika border. En-route enjoy lunch at second largest town in Rwanda; Ruhengeri Town. Afterwards continue to the Channika border. Clear with immigration then drive on to the lodge in park arriving in the afternoon. Afternoon spent at leisure. Then dinner and overnight at your hotel.

DAY 03: GORILLA TRACKING IN MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK

Today, after an early Morning breakfast Prepare yourself for an encounter with the Mountain Gorillas. Mgahinga Park boasts both Mountain Gorillas and golden monkeys. This park is an extension of the Volcanoes N. Park onto the Ugandan side and is
considered as the smallest park in Uganda. It also hosts five other species of primate, over 60 types butterflies and close to 200 birds species.

 

Given the fact that gorillatracking time is unpredictable, it is difficult to foresee how many hours you will actually hike. The escapade of tracking the gorillas in the superb ecosystem of the park will be passionate for the adventurers. It may take 2 hrs up to 5 hours or more and you should be prepared to walk long distance in steep and muddy conditions, sometimes with rain overhead, before you encounter any gorillas. “The excitement of seeing the gorillas makes it all worthwhile!” Briefing will be given on how to handle or behave with these gentle giants always at the park office before you embark on this adventure. This is a
fantastic and privileged opportunity to get up close and personal with Uganda’s very own ‘Gorillas in the Mist. You will spend an hour just observing these amazing creatures in their own habitat nonchalant by your visit.

 

Return to your lodge for the lodge. Afterwards, head out for village visit to the Batwa Community. You will be treated to a bit of history and then dancing and demonstrations of hunting techniques of old, by members of the Batwa community.

DAY 04: DEPART FOR KIGALI FOR KIGALI CITY

After breakfast you will bid your host good-bye and depart for Kigali. En-route enjoy a visit to the twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo that have some very beautiful scenic views Virunga volcanoes. These are beautiful lakes located at the base of volcano Muhabura and close to the border with Uganda. They are surrounded by steep hills with a backdrop of the Virunga volcanic mountains. These twin lakes are great spots to be visited. Enjoy a boat ride to one of the islands stopping for lunch atop the island. You will then journey on to Kigali city. Engage in last minute shopping in one of the friendliest African capitals, before returning to the airport for your onward international flight back home or drop off at your hotel.
