Let's go touch the sky: Mount Kenya (Naro Moru Route) 4 Days / 3 Nights

Take this classic route up Mt. Kenya, Africa’s second highest mountain standing at (5,199m) (17, 057 ft) tall. With its rugged, glacier-clad summits, mysterious afro-alpine moorlands and diverse forests, this is one of the most impressive landscapes in East-Africa that will offer you an unforgettable experience.

On this route, you’ll climb through the famed vertical bog, encounter mischievous troops of Colobus monkeys and soak in the mountain’s breathtaking scenery as you disconnect from the world and climb up towards the sky.

Day 1: Nairobi - Naro Moru

An early morning start takes you north of Nairobi through the pineapple and coffee plantations to the sacred slopes of Mt. Kenya. After a picnic lunch at the Naro Moru gate, you’ll begin your first three-hour trek.

Enter the tropical forest zone where, along the way, you’ll encounter noisy troops of Colobus monkeys, see tracks of elephants and buffaloes, trekking towards the Meteorological Station to enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Mount Kenya

After an early breakfast, continue your hike up to Mackinder’s Camp, which takes approximately 5-6 hours. Here you’ll walk through challenging vertical bog and tussock grass, before settling for a picnic lunch.

Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Mackinder’s Camp, all the while enjoying the spectacular views of Batian and Neilon Peaks.

Day 3: Mount Kenya

Begin your 3 hour ascension to Point Lenana early before dawn (around 3am). The mountain ranges illuminated by the rising sun and the sea of clouds beneath you provide a breathtakingly beautiful scene.

Descend to Mackinder’s Camp for breakfast and then proceed for the five hour trek via the mysterious moorlands to the Meteorological Station for dinner and overnight

Day 4: Naro Moru - Nairobi

After breakfast, disappear into the lush rainforest for a good trek to Naro Moru and connect to your transport back to Nairobi.
